Working with Suicidal Clients Workshop

This full-day professional development workshop provides comprehensive coverage of the knowledge, conceptualization skills, and clinical considerations counselors need in providing the minimum standard of care in working with a suicidal client. The training addresses both crisis and long-term treatment scenarios, and incorporates role play, participant practice, large and small group discussion, and questions/answers to provide a setting where counselors can increase their confidence that they can competently address a suicidal client’s clinical needs.

Presenters

Gregg Elliott - 8.jpg

Dr. Gregg Elliott, LPC, ACS

Dr. Elliott has been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 2003. He has a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Adams State University, and is an Associate Professor in Colorado Christian University's School of Counseling. Dr. Elliott’s clinical expertise and research interests are in working with suicidal clients and in training mental health clinicians to work with suicidal clients. Dr. Elliott is a Past President of the Colorado Counseling Association and he is on the leadership team of the Western Region of the American Counseling Association. He is a former ASIST and AMSR trainer and has published several original research articles focused on exploring the ways counselor educators train students to work with suicidal clients. He is a member of a number of national, state, and regional professional associations including the American Association of Suicidology.

Dr. Ela Cassellius, LCMHCS, NCC

Dr. Ela Cassellius has been a Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor since 2011. She has an Ed.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Argosy University-Denver and is an Associate Professor of Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Colorado Christian University. Dr. Cassellius has varied clinical experience which includes having worked within a community mental health center’s crisis department, where she performed risk assessments and crisis intervention tasks. She has been ASIST trained, taught numerous sections of graduate level Crisis and Trauma courses, and has worked with many clients who have struggled with suicidal ideation and who have a history of suicide attempts within her clinical practice.
